What is Fit Kangra 2026?

Fit Kangra 2026 is a three-day fitness and cultural festival organised by the Kangra district administration at Baan Ganga Ghat, from 9 to 11 October 2026. It is billed as the first event of its kind in Kangra and in Himachal Pradesh.

The festival is led by SDM Kangra, Dr. Anjali Garg. It brings fitness, devotion, spirituality and youth engagement together across nine sessions: a marathon, yoga, a youth panel discussion, a classical talent hunt, devotional zumba, natti, bhangra, and a Maha Aarti each evening. Fitness and drug-awareness camps run alongside the main sessions.

Entry is free, and every session is open to the public.

Why Fit Kangra 2026 is being held

It is an anti-chitta initiative. The stated purpose is to take the fight against drugs beyond conventional awareness campaigns — instead of posters, assemblies and warnings, the district is putting on activities that young people can take part in.

The aim is to give young people "a better high": the high of fitness, music, dance, devotion, achievement and belonging. Dr. Garg has said the festival is intended to connect youth with a healthy and drug-free lifestyle, and to encourage participation rather than attendance.

The slogan is: Fit Youth. Positive Minds. Drug-Free Kangra.

The festival falls during Navratri, which is why a Maha Aarti closes each day at the ghat, and why the bhajan sandhya on the concluding day is one of its main draws.

fit kangra 2026 full three day schedule at baan ganga ghat

The sessions worth planning around

three of the nine need a bit of thought before you go — one has a start time you can't be late for, one has an entry condition, and a few have names that don't explain themselves.

The marathon: route, timing and who it's for

it's an out-and-back along the river — start at baan ganga ghat, turn at kachiayari, finish back at the ghat.

it runs 6:00 to 7:00 am on saturday. that one hour matters, because the word "marathon" puts people off something that is really just an early morning run with a few hundred others. you don't need a running background. you can walk parts of it.

the route is riverside road and ghat path — flat to gently rolling, no trails, no climbs. october mornings in kangra are cold before sunrise and warm up quickly once the sun clears the ridge, so wear a layer you can tie around your waist.

be at the ghat by about 5:40. this is the one session where turning up late means missing it completely.

The classical talent hunt: who can enter

this is the only session with a condition, so read it before you plan around it.

it's for classical performers only — singing, classical dance, or a classical instrument. other styles won't be shortlisted. it runs sunday 11 october, 2:00 to 5:00 pm, and you register beforehand rather than turning up with an instrument on the day.

if you've been learning for years and have never performed outside a class, this is a rare thing in kangra: a real stage, an audience, judges, and no entry fee.

Natti, bhangra and maha aarti, explained

no poster explains these, so here's what each one actually is.

natti is himachal's own folk dance. a long line of people move together to dhol and shehnai, the same steps repeating. it's the least intimidating group dance there is — you join the back of the line and copy the person in front. nobody is watching you.

bhangra needs no introduction and no skill. by 7pm on saturday half the ghat will be in it.

maha aarti is the evening prayer at the river: lamps, bells, a crowd facing the water. at baan ganga during navratri it's the thing people come for even without a festival attached. you can stand and watch without taking part.

devotional zumba is exactly what it sounds like, and it's funnier and better than you're imagining.

Who the festival is for

anyone who turns up. the schedule is built so you don't have to be one particular kind of person.

if you run, or want to start — saturday's marathon is one hour along the river, not a serious distance event.

if you've never done anything like this — friday evening is four hours and asks nothing of you.

if you perform — sunday's talent hunt is a real stage with judges.

if you're working out what comes next — saturday's youth panel is careers and counselling, aimed at students.

if you're coming for navratri anyway — the aartis anchor every evening, and you don't need to do a single fitness session to be there.

there's no age limit, no fitness requirement, and nothing you need to bring but shoes.

which fit kangra 2026 session to pick

How to join and register

through Gigavent. every session is listed on its own, and you register for the ones you want.

it works like this: get the app, find Fit Kangra 2026, pick your sessions, register. the marathon, the yoga, the youth panel, the zumba and the talent hunt each have their own slot and their own timing — so you can do the 6am run and skip the afternoon, or come only for the aarti.

it's free. registering isn't about payment. it's so the organisers know how many people to expect at a 6am start line, and so the timings sit on your phone instead of in a screenshot you'll lose.

pick your sessions and get in. open Gigavent →

and it keeps working after this weekend — whatever else is happening near you shows up on the same screen. that's the whole point of it: the stuff around you that nobody puts online.

Before you go

two practical things, and then you're set.

Getting to Baan Ganga Ghat

the ghat is on the kangra bypass road below kangra town, where the river runs past the temples.

the full address is baan ganga ghat, halehr khurd, kangra, himachal pradesh 176001. it's a short ride from kangra bus stand, about twenty minutes from kangra airport, and roughly 45 minutes to an hour from dharamshala depending on valley traffic.

the ghat isn't a venue built for events — it's a working riverside site where people come for prayer and immersions all year, with wide stone steps, lamp posts along the promenade and the dhauladhar range standing behind. that's why it holds a crowd this size without feeling staged.

leave early for the evenings. it's navratri, the ghat is busy anyway, and parking near the river fills well before 7pm. expect to walk the last stretch.

What to bring

less than you think.

mornings — shoes you can run in, a yoga mat if you own one, and water. 6am by the river in october is cold.

evenings — something warm. the temperature drops fast once the sun goes behind the ridge.

all day — your phone with the registration on it, and cash for the stalls.
